Apple has officially introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, bringing major upgrades in performance, photography, battery life and artificial intelligence. The new Pro models are powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip and introduce a 48MP main camera with variable aperture, giving users greater control over photography. The iPhone 18 Pro series became available in September 2026, while the standard iPhone 18 has not yet been officially announced by Apple. iPhone 18 Pro: Key Highlights The biggest highlights of the iPhone 18 Pro series include: A20 Pro chip 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture Improved low-light photography iOS 27 and Siri AI Redesigned, smaller Dynamic Island Next-generation vapour chamber Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 Up to 2TB storage Improved battery life Four colour options Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro Max offers up to 43 hours of video playback, making it the longest-lasting iPhone according to the company. A20 Pro Chip One of the biggest upgrades is Apple’s new A20 Pro processor. The chip uses a 2-nanometre process and includes a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the A20 Pro has 50% more memory bandwidth than the previous-generation A19 Pro and can deliver up to 40% faster GPU performance. For everyday users, this should mean faster app launches, smoother gaming, better video editing and more capable on-device AI processing. 48MP Camera With Variable Aperture Photography is another major focus of the iPhone 18 Pro. The phone features a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. This is an important change because aperture control gives photographers more flexibility over light, depth of field and the overall appearance of images. Apple says the new camera is designed to improve low-light photos and videos while providing greater creative control. The new Pro camera controls also give users easier access to frequently used photography settings. Display and Design The iPhone 18 Pro features a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max has a larger 6.9-inch display. Both models use an aluminium unibody design and Ceramic Shield 2 protection. Apple has also redesigned the Dynamic Island to make it smaller while allowing it to display more information. It can show up to three Live Activities at once. Battery Life Battery performance is another major area where Apple has focused on improvements. According to Apple, the iPhone 18 Pro Max can provide up to 43 hours of video playback. The company also says the Pro Max gets up to six additional hours of video playback compared with the iPhone 17 Pro Max. A new vapour chamber also helps the phone maintain performance during demanding tasks such as gaming, video editing and AI workloads. iOS 27 and Siri AI The iPhone 18 Pro runs iOS 27 and includes Apple’s newer AI capabilities. Apple has also introduced Siri AI, designed to provide a more personal and capable assistant experience. Apple says Siri AI is rolling out in English, with availability depending on region and feature support. AI processing is also supported by the A20 Pro’s upgraded Neural Engine. Storage and Colours The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are available with: 256GB 512GB 1TB 2TB The available colours are Black, Silver, Glacier and Burgundy. iPhone 18 Pro Availability Apple began pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 12, 2026, with availability beginning September 18, 2026. However, if you’re specifically looking for the standard iPhone 18, Apple has not officially announced that model yet. Current reports indicate that the standard iPhone 18 could arrive in spring 2027, but this remains unconfirmed by Apple. The iPhone 18 Pro is a substantial upgrade for users who want better camera control, stronger performance, longer battery life and more advanced AI features. The new A20 Pro chip, variable-aperture 48MP camera and improved battery performance make the iPhone 18 Pro particularly attractive to photographers, content creators, gamers and professional users. For owners of recent iPhone Pro models, however, the upgrade may be less essential. Users with older iPhones are likely to see a much bigger improvement. Overall, the iPhone 18 Pro represents Apple’s continued push toward combining high-end smartphone photography, powerful mobile performance and on-device AI.
